A Bridges volunteer helps a young reader

The Bridges Volunteer Program brings older adults into the classroom to help children who are performing below their grade level. Volunteers work under the direction of teachers helping children improve their reading, spelling, math, or writing skills. They choose the school, grade level, and the days and times they want to work.

In addition to tutoring, volunteers become a special friend to the child and help them improve their self-esteem, expand their interests, and offer an attachment to school that many children do not have.
