Become a Legacy Corps Volunteer!
Program Description Make a difference - become a Legacy Corps volunteer now! The Legacy Corps Program offers the opportunity for volunteers to provide weekly respite to caregivers who are taking care of an elderly adult, 60 years of age or older, at home. Volunteers provide these services in homes throughout Salt Lake County. Legacy Corps is a grant program through the Corporation for National and Community Service AmeriCorps Program in partnership with the University of Maryland Department of Health Services Administration.
Volunteer Requirements Commit to one year of service of approximately 10 hours each week to fulfill the 450 hour commitment. Must be 18 years of age or older, must provide proof of U.S. citizenship or Naturalization, and must pass a background check.

The annual service term begins on April 1st.
Training and Support In-depth training is provided during the first two weeks of the program year. Monthly training is also available on topics relevant to service activity. Other trainings such as computer training, safety issues, aging issues and aspects of caregiving are available.
Benefits
  • A yearly stipend of $2,200, or approximately $85 every two weeks
  • Upon completion of the 450 hour commitment, members receive an education award of $1,250 for use at any college or university
  • Mileage reimbursement or free bus pass
