Section 306 (a)(6)(B) of the Older American's Act states that Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) should:
Serve as the advocate and focal point for older individuals within the community by (in cooperation with agencies, organizations, and individuals participating in activities under the plan) monitoring, evaluating, and commenting upon all policies, programs, hearings, levies, and community actions which effect older individuals.
In laymen's terms this means that Salt Lake County Aging Services, as the local AAA, is mandated to advocate on behalf of the older population we serve. One of the areas in which we do this is the political arena.
To help in this endeavor, we've designed this webpage. Here you will find the issues that Aging Services will be working on in the upcoming Utah legislative session, tips on how to be an effective advocate, weekly updates on the bills and budgets and other issues we are tracking as well as links to the information and organizations that will have an impact on senior issues in the upcoming legislative session.
