Description:
Bridges brings older adults from the community into the classroom to help children who are performing below their grade level. While tutoring a child one-on-one, a volunteer increases the child's basic academic skills in reading, English and math, helps the child develop a better attitude toward school, and positively influences the child's self-esteem.
Volunteer Opportunities: Elementary School Tutor Volunteers work under the direction of class room teachers to help children improve their reading, spelling, math, or writing skills by tutoring them one-on-one four hours a week. Volunteers may choose the school, grade level, and the days and times they want to work.
